i posted this earlier but me and my band are going to London and will be there from the 19th or march through the 24th... or something like that.

I was wondering if anyone knew someone i could get like a 2 hour lesson from... and how are the rates??? my lessons are subsidised by my college now buck last year i used to pay him 15 bucks for 30 mins....

i need this teacher to check out my technique... especialy my hands.... and more specificaly my left hand.

actualy if anyone could help me right now itd be great but how do you use your fingers to play on a trad grip?? when i switch to fingers on my right hand i just trun the thumb up a little so its almost like a french grip and i can get the fingers going... I dunno how to do this with the trad gripp... nor do i know how to do the whole moeller technique thing... to be honest my trad grip sucks but ive been playing it for 1 year now and ive only been playing two years so ive been playing longer with trad,... my trad sucks my matched is worse!!!

anyway yeah... so as I was saying. any good teachers there?? or any one of you teachers in that area and have any open space??

also any good drum shops that sell stuff for cheap?? and have second hand stuff too??

Whilst your in london, try finding the DVD by Dave Weckl Called back to basics (this explains finger technique in trad grip), also then check out his newer dvd from his A Natural Evolution Series called How to Develop Technique, these should teach you the proper technique that you need and will answer the questions you are looking for.

If you want to find out more about the Moeller Technique get Dom Famularos book Its Your Move. These items will be just as expensive as getting a 2 hour lesson and will teach you the techniques that you need,

but if u want someone to specifically look at your technique and tell you what is wrong then lessons are the way to go, but if you are just trying to find out what the correct technique is, those materials are good enough

Yeah, either Armstrong or get to see Ralph Salmins. He's usually around and will try and fit you in.

I'm with Daz on this one! Bob is the DON!!!

Actually, Bob has changed his studio and phone details within the last two months, so if you find out they don't work, I can help out.

Dazz, who else do you go to? I've seen you mention Dave Hassell, are there any others?

Groovemeister, I studied with Bob for a couple of years and am good friends with Dave Hassell, who is without doubt one of the most knowledgeable, musical and passionate drummer/percussionists in England today.
His knowledge on drumming, it's history and world music is second to none. I have sooo much respect for this man it's untrue and he is one of the reasons that I keep on bleating about MUSIC as opposed to drumming.

I don't like it when things get too 'drum orientated' as personally I don't think that it's living in the real world. Dave always gets you to think about MUSIC first and drumming second and that's why I am passionate about MUSIC as opposed to drumming.

As Peter Erskine said at his last masterclass at The Royal Academy Of Music in London: "I have never had a singer come up to me and say "wow, your singles are super fast man!'" I wish that this ethos would be taken on board more than it appears to be.

......I also wish that it's something more of us would concentrate on (including me!); PHRASING, an understaning of FORM, EARS, TOUCH, FEEL, READING and EMPATHY are where it's at and all of which separates true musicians from bedroom players, not double bass chops or double reverse flamadiddles with pike!!

It's all very well having chops of doom in your bedroom, but see how far that gets you when you're on a session and have to sight read a part in one take with a full orchestra and brass section.... Let's see how impressed they are with groups of nines over the bar line!!

Rant over. Normal service will be resumed shortly!

    Go Man,

Don't bother trying to buy stuff in London at cheap prices cause it ain't gonna happen. Especially with where the dollar is at...1.9 to the pound!!

As for lessons I would go with Daz cause he knows the scene pretty well in London by my reckonin'.
